Trust Is the New Interface State
When products become more autonomous, trust stops being a brand promise and becomes an interface state. Users need to understand what happened, why it happened, and what they can do next if the system gets it wrong.
Transparency does not require overwhelming people with logs or technical explanations. It means providing just enough evidence at the right moment: a source, a confidence cue, a reversible action, or a plain-language summary of the system’s reasoning.
Designing for Reversibility
The more a product can do on behalf of a user, the more graceful its undo paths must become. Reversibility is not a safety net; it is the foundation of confidence.
